A mentor of mine used to tell me to tell an authentic story - something you did that went badly, something that you learned from, and make it personal and authentic. That's what makes it memorable rather than really dry
I did a conference talk about some software I was designing and after a dry run, he basically told me to "lean into the part where 'people said it was shit'" which changed a lot of the direction, and the feedback was really great afterwards
