Weekend exploration: a touch slider that's fast and precise at the same time.
Every slider on a touchscreen has the same problem: they're easy to sweep but nearly impossible to land on an exact value. A common fix is a long-press "fine mode", a second button to adjust scale or a raw input field.
So I tried a different idea and built a small demo: the Drift slider. Drag as normal, then slide your finger sideways off the track and each 'lane' you enter makes the movement finer: 1:2, 1:4, 1:8. No mode, no waiting, one finger. Touching never jumps the value, and a tap above or below the handle nudges by exactly one.
This experiment started as a control for a touchscreen synth, but it's solves the same problem on a price filter, a loan calculator or a quantity picker. Anywhere you sweep first and then want an exact number.

When I edit photos on my phone and am dragging dials then let off they usually change as my finger lifts 🫠 So I know the struggle. This is genius. The tone scared me at first, haha! I wish iOS Safari allowed haptics on the web for even more feedback.
Haha, I'm sorry for the noise & scaring you. 🤗 Perhaps I should have used a song instead. And yes, I totally agree. Haptics would improve this much.
